1. Google Account

As a webmaster, a Google account is essential.

Google can deliver new business via its search engine and offers anyone with an account an ever-growing suite of cool tools for making businesses grow. And many of their tools and services are free to use.

• Don’t create another account if you already have one.
• RECORD your Username (username@gmail.com) and Password.
• Use your actual Gmail email (username@gmail.com) when signing up for all web related services.

If you already have a Google Account (Gmail account) that you use, use that account. You only need one Google account to run your personal and business ‘lives’.

• Multiple accounts really confuse things and slow things down. Web-based stuff can be confusing enough without making things more confusing and complicated.
• Don’t worry business(s) and personal will all be separate – it just means you have everything at your fingertips all in one place :-).
• And in case you’re wondering, we’ll cover domain emails (you@yourbusiness.com) later in the ‘formula’ but your Google account is the first step.

As we go, we’ll be using various Google Services. For now, we just need to make sure we have a working account and that our password is safely stored an easy to retrieve. Using the Chrome browser can be helpful in keeping logins but ultimately you want to use something such as Last Pass.

Once you have your account and Gmail email address, use that Gmail address when you sign up for hosting and all other services so you never miss important notifications.
